Garnets are a group of semi-precious gemstones that come in a wide range of colours. Chemically, they are silicates, and based on the combination of metal ions, they are separated into several species.
Today’s post is Grossular (calcium/aluminium) and Pyrope (magnesium/aluminium).
There are a few varieties of Grossular, based on colour:
- Hessonite (“Cinnamon Stone”) — brown/red to orange/yellow
- Rosolite — pink
- Tsavorite — green
Pyropes come in various shades of red, ranging from cherry red to purplish hues to almost black.
